Although the party had apparently dealt with the immediate cause of the local undead outbreak by tracking down and slaying a necromancer, Slade wasn't particularly pleased. The paladins and priests were more than happy to wander off task and destroy any and all non-friendly life they happened upon, even when he warned them in advance so they could easily avoid such encounters. More worrisome though was the fact his bow and arrows did nothing to most of the more powerful undead they battled. Even swapping to his few magical arrows hadn't made any difference in these battles. In frustration, he'd even tried out the new long sword he'd picked up, but it's magic was even weaker than his bow, so, not surprisingly, had no effect either. However that didn't stop him from nearly getting killed several times by the hostile magic swirling around the melee. He would have to contemplate on ways he might compensate for this problem. It went without saying that he hadn't gotten any loot in these battles either. Sometimes life simply sucked.

The group had found and eliminated the threat: A necromancer was hiding in a farm and raising all manners of undead creatures.
Pius was confident that they had sufficient divine magic and enchanted equipment to deal with most of the foes. So far he was correct. The fact that he and Amathain could enchant weapons with divine energy was probably critical in turning the tide of battles. Yet some of his friends did not believe that such enchantment although temporary was highly effective.

OOC:

Bless Weapon is an awesome (paladin only) spell.
1. The duration is minute real time or something like that. It is going to be much better than round per level and in some case turn per level. I agree with Ama however that we should wait until we get into a hot zone before casting it.
2. The +1 is not overwriting your existing magical bonus so no worries here (per game engine design)
3. Divine damages are stacking with whatever you have so you can have slashing + fire + divine
You may check the combat log if you have any doubt.

Note: It does not work with range weapons but do work on creatures (e.g. summons).

"Bah! More necromancers! Why can't they leave the dead to their rest? Must be the work of this 'new power' out 'ere. I say we find it, kill it, and stick it in the ground 'fore it can make more of them blasted undead. Shame 'bout that camp we couldn't use, it look real comfortable like."

"We should be careful about where we camp and how we explore from here on, it seems like likely campsites have been set up as ambushes, and more than once things have jumped out of unexpected places, like the bottom of that pond. Whatever force is behind this, they're cunning enough to set traps for any who might pursue."

"Do you think they are looking for us?" Shanni asked. "If this is a trap then that implies they must be, which is something we should perhaps factor into our plans. We can't afford to keep bouncing from defending against ambush to attacking an obvious threat we detect without something giving. At the moment it's been equipment levels and I don't want it to be lives."

"One thing we should perhaps do is consider what advantages our different patrons and devotions can provide to prevent us getting hurt rather than deal with the after affects?" she added. "I've grown much in terms of what my Lady is prepared to offer me, and doubtless you all have too," Shanni looked from face to face, "but are we using those blessings intelligently enough?"

((To clarify.

Yes Bless Weapon is great, the damage bonus is smart and while you are right, it won't remove a permanent item magical bonus, Bless Weapon definitely DID override the +4 I had given to my sword from Greater Magical Weapon. They are essentially the same spell based magical effect and the one cast later will almost certainly override the former, as it is not permanent.

We can test again in game if you like and I'll stand corrected if wrong, it may be because the bonus was one lingering through login, but I believe it makes more sense to plan what we are doing and you cast first, before I cast GMW. So of the spell effects do override then it will be the +4 overriding the +1 and not the other way around.))

"I don't think there's anyone after us, specifically," Nihmri said, with a shrug. "It's just that we've more or less stepped into hostile territory, you know? Dead things 'round every corner around these parts. Best to think of it as a warzone, and not to let down our guard."

"Maybe they are looking for us," insisted Suula, giving her sister a sidelong glance. "It's the worst thing that could be happening... so why not assume the worst? Seems sensible to me." She scowled back at the camp, and at the hilltop. "How else are we going to be able to prepare for trouble if we prance along thinking it'll all work out? I'll bet things aren't going to be so smooth at Ember Vale, either."
