The Underdark. Toric had heard stories of it; how vast it was; how easy it was to get lost; the many different creatures who called it home, most of which were hostile. But nothing could prepare him for what he experienced. He was at home in the stone, be it caves, tunnels, or inside a Dwarven keep like Torgan's Deep....but this place; this place made his head spin, his eyes water, and his senses desert him. More than once he lost himself in the vast caverns he and his companions walked through, losing sight of them. It was only through sheer luck or the blessings of his Gods that he was able to find them again every time, but he knew he couldn't count on his good fortune lasting because even the Gods can tire...

Drow. It was only a matter of time of course, given where they were, before they were bound to run into them. While Slade had studied of them and knew the language, it still was a bit of a shock to finally meet one in the flesh. He turned out to be a lot more cordial than Slade had expected. The party had bartered away some magic for information, but Slade wondered who'd gotten the better end of the deal.

"So..." Shanni murmured quietly, sideling closer to her sister as they started out once more, "what's up? And don't give me the whole 'Nothing' or 'Mind your own business' thing because it's not gonna work." She glanced sideways towards Nim. "Yeah, she was being a complete cow but ... well that doesn't normally bother you. I remember Jessie Morden calling you a mad bitch after that thing with the axe falling off the wall but you just told her that her hair would grow again and still be just as bad a dye job as it had been before."

"This place is depressing for sure." The young woman looked around at the dark cavern walls, full of places where vision was lost to the blackness of the depths. "I mean, I can barely hear my Lady down here, it's getting really difficult to focus on her blessings. So dark all the time, there's constant echoes, and you never know what from. Plus the stuff down here isn't like on the surface, it's all .... gribbly and icky." She paused for a moment wrinkling her nose in dubious displeasure. "Was it the spiders?" she asked. "I know there was the whole incident with the cupboard but ... what's up?"

LOST!

The group managed to return to the village. They took the time to eat, rest and resupply. The smith had completed the armours. Pius had been waiting for a chance to use better equipment. A well crafted full place should allow him to use a large weapon and only revert to the sword and shield combination when facing the most dangerous foes. He would need a better weapon too in due time.

After leaving the village they met a Dark Elf. It was a rare thing to meet a non hostile creature willing to exchange words. They eventually moved on.

This time however the group got scattered. Pius got lost at least twice. Even Toric got lost...

// Last time I got kicked by the lag monster and by a sleep spell, probably rolled a 1 twice.

Suula avoids her sister's look, hesitant and unwilling to speak. But Shanni is insistent, and her words touch something in the black-robed priestess, something lonely and needing to reach out. She lets out a chill breath, slumping her shoulders.

"It wasn't... just the spiders. Or the... driders? They were scary, but it was what was... behind them...?" She turned a little paler in the weak light. "I think I saw - well, felt - a glimpse of something. A touch of what's waiting for us down here. No words. Just a feeling. I've never felt anything like it, ever."

She clutches at her sister's arm a moment, staring into her face, whispering hoarsely in the silent cavern. "Lost. Alone, changed... not what we were, and unable to remember what we used to be. Wandering in the dark, looking for something we can't ever find, or skulking in a corner. Lords of a pile of dung and rocks, slowly going mad. Sis, I think I saw the future."

"I want to go away from here," she takes her hand away, and hugs herself. "I want us to go back to the light. I don't want this misfortune. None of them deserve it, not Nimh, not Toric, not Slade... and no matter what happens, no matter what they've done or will do, they never will. No-one down here ever could."

"If our preparations are complete, we'll need to get moving. Things are only going to get worse here the longer we take to end this threat. I do not want to see the urdunnir go the same way as the derro we encountered."

"Hey, Suula..."

Nihmri paused, grimaced, tried to find the right words, failed, then tried again.

"I didn't mean to upset you, you know," she said, with the weary reluctance of one who is unaccustomed to apologizing. "I suppose it's just the way I deal with all of this oppressive awfulness. I'd rather laugh than cringe, even if it's at a really bad joke. So... yeah. Sorry."

Once again the devoted ventured in some corner of the unfamous Underdark. For Pius, this was starting to look like a routine patrol. This time around he he did put faith in his new armour. He strapped his large shield to his back and equipped his huge flail. The flail was cursed but the benefits seemed to outweigh the drawbacks. He just needed to remember to cast all protective spells before touching the cursed weapon...
