IC thread for Gatereach after meeting with Scarlet Co.

Post by Jaokith » Mon Nov 24, 2014 9:47 pm

OOC: In a selfish effort to participate despite not being able to play this next Sunday, I thought an IC thread about what went on this past session would do the thing. :D. Feel free to join in.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aerikoth calmly watched Shanni depart to scout the area around the Empty Fish tavern and then did the same when Rahnee turned to leave as well. He sat for a moment in quiet contemplation on his stool at the bar of the Gatereach Inn, his hands folded in the sleeves of his robes. An unemotional expression remained on his features as he quietly sat for a time before turning to both Darrow and Dermot.

"I do not believe any member of the Scarlet Company knew of the ambush that occurred after we departed the tavern", the short wizard commented quietly, keeping his voice low so as not to be overheard. "I know there was mention of perhaps the halfling rogue or the sorcerer having known of Cormaeril's intention and it is possible I am mistaken but their group does not seem the sort to do such a thing.

"Also, considering their desire to pay back the money that they have already received", Aerikoth continued, "An odd desire to treat their invalid contract with such honesty despite being ignorant of the intentions of their employers." He paused for a moment to let his words sink in before continuing in his placid tone of voice. "I will state again that I do not think they should pay and I certainly do not think we should cover the costs of a baseless contract."

Aerikoth took a few sips of water after speaking, letting the two warriors offer their own opinions on the matter if they so chose.

Darrow plunked himself down on the barstool with practiced ease. He rubbed his beard, cheeks flushed red from the recent excitement and exertion, and listened to Aerikoth speak. Nodding to himself, he replied.

"Aye, I'm thinkin' yer right. Th' Scarlets show no sign o knowin' wot was comin'. 'Cept Juril mebbe, an' he's th' one who twigged Shanni ta our danger." Pausing a moment, he lifted his ale mug to the room. "Wasn't much of a fight though. We gotta tell Cormaeril tha if ye come after us, ye a least owe us a good scrap!"

"I think our endeavor should be more than just giving advice on a more challenging ambush to that noble house", Aerikoth responded. "To put it bluntly, we should assault their hold and eradicate them altogether. It is the only way to ensure that they will not continue to be a problem for anyone."

The wizard took a sip of his water as he let his words sink in. His calm demeanor and lack of expression albeit his norm did not convey the seriousness and potential danger of his proposition as he continued in a placid tone.

"That noble house is guilty of numerous infractions against most if not everyone of us from the torture and murder of former members of this group to the destruction of property as was the case with the Gatereach guesthouse, our former residence. There comes a time, in my opinion, where an action goes too far and it must be answered in kind. I believe such has been reached presently."

"Sounds logical," Dermot speaks up. "Very good chance that we'll be wanted criminals afterward, though, an' ev'ry man's hand, from Cormaeril's allies to their enemies, would be turned against us. Nobles don't like it when other nobles die, it gives people crazy ideas that nobles can be killed..."

The ranger leans back in his chair. "Maybe there're ways we can bring down Cormaeril without murderin' 'em all. They're crooked, we know they're crooked. Maybe if we could find and hit these assassins they're supposedly workin' with, we can find some link, an' use that to get the other noble families 'gainst 'em."
