Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread

"Does anyone else feel less comfortable with life in and around Maniteia right now?" queries Polytropos, limping out into the daylight and looking thoughtful and uncertain. "Between river spirits taking little girls, nests of koboloi and... and earth-dragons with skins of rock lurking just below our feet, and wolves of Hades prowling around, this isn't feeling like the warm and happy home I've known all my life. Throw in the loss of the festival meats, and this day is feeling downright unfriendly."

Walking out behind him Katamarene took a moment to pose artfully, leaning on her javelin, and look down over the village. Presenting just the right profile she spoke.
"I too have been surprised at the dangers presenting so suddenly, when all there was to worry about before was falling from the ladder when picking fruit, or the olive nets tripping you." She pursed her lips thoughtfully. "But we have saved them from all those problems so far, except one, so perhaps this is why they happen now? For the gods to test us?"
"If this is a test then I will stand ready to pass the next, and in the meantime we can solve that last problem." Her brown eyes flashed and a determined grin formed as her arm extended to gesture at the surrounding countryside. "We hunt and bring back game, and save the Festival feast! Who is with me?"

Telemachus grunted unhappily. "You're right of course. If we hadn't managed to bring the cave down on that thing in there, it would have killed the lot of us, and likely eaten anyone in Maniteia not quick enough to run away." He sighed "There seems to be more danger about the village these days, and pressing more closely. Have we offended one of the Gods in some way?"

Wisdom of the village elders.
Andreas arrived at the river sweating.
Andreas: "You ask for me Master?"
Master: : "That I did young one. I want you to cross the river, fill these two buckets and come back without spilling a drop, can you do that?"
Andreas: "Sure."
Master: "And be cautious the stones are slippery."
Andreas: "I will."
Andreas crossed the river, grabbed the buckets, filled them with fresh water and started to cross back jumping from stone to stone. One, two, three, he stopped to regain his balance, four. Two more steps and he would be on the other side. The river was a little deeper on that side and the water slightly murky so he could not see clearly although he remembered where the stones were. He took another step and slipped to the right, he quickly jumped towards the last stone but lost his balance falling forward he just had the reflex to somehow land the two buckets on the ground. He came out of the water soaked but with the satisfaction of having passed the test.
Andreas: "See, I did it!"
Master: "I am sorry Andreas but you failed."
Andreas: "But how, you got the buckets, I don't think I dropped a thing."
Master: "That may be so but you could have injured yourself in the process. You forgot about safety. Your judgement was clouded."
Andreas: "How so?"
Master: "Why did you cross the river here? Wasn't there a safer path?"
Andreas: "Sure the bridge but you mentioned about the stone..."
Master: "Hold it. Think about it. I did not ask you to cross here did I?"
Andreas posed a moment: "That is true, I did let you cloud my mind and acted hastily."
Master: "That is all I will teach you today."
Andreas: But you promised to tell me about the men chained in the cave watching shadows and the one about a great warrior who could catch flying arrows."
Master: "Some other day, I promise some other day."

Damien shrugged at Polytropos' comment. "I don't know what's happening, but whatever it is, it isn't natural. We should take care so that we aren't eaten or have something as equally bad happen to us."

Leonaidas had happily poked about in remains of the goblin lair looking for loot. Unfortunately, there hadn't been much worth salvaging. The others hadn't responded too positively to his idea of digging up the remains of the heavily plated lizard they'd managed to bury beneath a pile of rocks in the caverns below. He idily plucked a few strings of his harp as they made their way back to the village.

"I recall reading something about the gods disliking hubris, once," Eleni mused, grinning after hearing Kataramene's speech. "But yes - there is only one thing to do! We cannot allow the village to go hungry during a feast. What sort of sad place would we have to say we are from, otherwise?"
Privately, of course, Eleni was just as pleased at the plague of misfortunes, though for her own reasons. They had spoken to actual koboloi - not precisely the most clean of creatures, true, but fascinating nonetheless! What a story this would make for the other villagers...
And of course, there was the fact that someone had gotten down on their knees to worship her. That had been fun, too.

Re: Heroes of the Peloponnese Game Thread
Remember I am out on vacation on November 10, there will be no session that day.
Daylight savings time starts in the United States this weekend. So our next game on November 17 will be one hour later than usual for those who live in countries that are not affected by DST.

OOC: With everything going on at home I tend to lose track of what's happening between game sessions. I believe when we left off last time, the harvest festival had started and Kat won the javelin throwing contest, but that the wrestling and footrace competitions hadn't started. Also, the bully of the camp lost to Kat. Anything I missed? Thanks.
