Eleni spent much of the journey back to Argos studying the things they'd retrieved from the serpent-woman's lair, all the while wondering just what the followers of Hera wanted with a vial of lamia blood. She was tempted to run some tests on the stuff herself, but even as curious as she was she couldn't quite muster up the audacity to risk angering a goddess, especially not one she owed a friend's life to. She'd have to content herself with the other things of note they'd found, and hope some clues to this particular mystery would reveal themselves later.

It was a shame they didn't have the time to investigate the ruins of Mycenae. If a creature such as the daughter of the lamia could make its lair there, imagine what other secrets must lie buried! Perhaps it was an idea for a future expedition, though there was unlikely to be a shortage of excitement in the group's future.

The trip to defeat the snake woman had been a fine little adventure, a couple of little trinkets and some extra fame were a nice bonus to a job that was taken to pay for his life.
Telemachus still wasn't sure how to feel about that. There was no gap in his memory, he'd been fighting in the caves and then he'd been on a stone slab with a priestess chanting over him, with no intervening time between. He was happy to be alive, obviously, there's no glory to win in the world of the dead. It was just unsettling how close he'd come to a trip to the underworld.
He shook his head. Too much thinking. "Come on, if we make good time maybe we'll make it back for the games" he said, setting a brisk pace.

From the bouleterion in Argos, councilor Strato's description of the three quests:
The first call for help comes from King Pharos of Thrace. Apparently his kingdom is beset by some sort of beastmen attacking from the swamps of his land. Thrace offers us trade in druidic magic, furs, and forest products. They are quite barbaric but still a valuable ally.

The second call comes from King Idomeneus of Crete. His request is somewhat more... murky, but apparently is connected to that old construct, the Labyrinth. Foolish, to create a dungeon in one's own lands, but there it is. The Cretans are known for their archery. They make excellent bows, and excel in light armors, and pottery.

The last request comes from the Egyptians. Their kingdom is in decline. The request comes not from the Pharaoh, but from merchants in the coastal city of Ra-Kedet. They are apparently having some difficulty with some sort of curse. I admit, I find their dialect ... difficult to decipher. But the Egyptians are an old people, very wealthy. They specialize in arcana, in old knowledge, cloth and papyrus, and grain.

So. As you can see, each option offers both rewards and difficulties.

Damian stood up from his seat on the bench and grabbed his mug. "Kat, please take my seat. I don't mind standing." He walked around to the empty end of the table and took a drink before setting down the mug. "My vote is for Thrace. I would dearly love to learn more about nature and how to call upon it for aid, as I do with the strengthening and skin hardening spells I can already cast, as well as the lightning, but I will defer to whatever you all decide. If we don't visit Thrace first, then I suggest we visit the Egyptians first instead. I don't know much about curses, but their knowledge could prove as much of a boon to Eleni as Thrace's would to me. Whatever we decide, we should do it soon since we've a long journey regardless of where we go."

Andreas looked at his empty mug.

"I am empty...

Where to go first? I don't really know what to tell you. But if is up to me I would say let us visit some distant land as they say Travel broadens the mind. If we follow this principle, Egypt should be our first journey, followed by Crete and Thrace last. When we get back here we shall be ready to take anyone or anything they may throw at us in the Arena."

They would be away for several moons perhaps even more. Who knows what could happen at home during the time when they would be away, war? famine? plague or perhaps natural disaster? But if something major was going to happen the heroes had no way to prevent it. Destiny would have to work its way sooner or later.

"Let us see the dunes of the desert and let the hot wind blow sand on our faces! If we kill more crocodiles we may be able to make boots for everyone."

[OOC]

There's a good chance that I may not be here or have to leave early because we have company. If I can't make it by the start time, don't wait for me.

"Egypt is fairly high up on the long list of places I have always dreamed of seeing," Eleni said wistfully. "But I am sure all destinations will have their curiosities, opportunities and rewards. Normally, I would suggest we give priority to the place whose need is most dire, but, well - we simply know far too little to make that distinction."

The sorceress pondered for a few moments, frowning.

"I suppose we could take into consideration the travel times, but those are hardly predictable and arguments could be made either way. But if we are handling this democratically, well... I suppose that's one for Thrace and two for Egypt. What of the others?"

"I myself am finding the call of Crete the most interesting,"Kataramene replied. "The Labyrinth of legend! A place where heroes were born! How could one not be intrigued?" She looked from face to face. "Doesn't anyone else see it as a sign that we are seven too? Does that not sound even a little like the gods talking?"

"The idea of a round trip makes a little sense, and those classes in which we sat were a little to dull when the sun was shining and the breeze called," the girl spoke as if it were the most justifiable reason in the world to miss learning, "but if I remember correctly Thrace is in the opposite direction to the others, but Crete is on the way to Egypt. If we're not expected to come back between the trips to report, that is."

"Then there's the craftsmanship they have to offer." Kataramene looked at Leonidas. "Bows the like of which we may never see. Making the most of your skills and maintaining distance from any enemy much more effective." Her gaze traveled to Telemachus and a hint of fire entered the eyes. "Armour of a quality to aid the best there is. Light enough to charge in swiftly, strong enough to protect when tackling the most heavily armed and help overpower them." Then on to Polytropos, and her lips formed a smile of temptation. "On top of which to visit a place of wonder long held in the imagination where only best and most beautiful were allowed to tread. Come on, you know it's the most intriguing option."
